Fantasy art gets a good showing in Flint Institute of Arts in Michigan, which is currently hosting "Enchanted: A History of Fantasy Illustration" through January 8. 

One of the images blown up to wall size is Red Dragon by Tyler Jacobson, 2014.

"Enchanted: A History of Fantasy Illustration" has closed at the Norman Rockwell Museum. 

Two of my paintings were part of the big fantasy exhibition which happened summer 2021 at the Norman Rockwell Museum in Stockbridge, Massachusetts.

To celebrate the successful landing of the 'Perseverence' Mars rover, the California Art Club has arranged a virtual exhibition called 'Mars: An Artistic Mission.'

Artists include Bryan Taylor, Boris Vallejo, Julie Bell, William Stout, Peter Adams and me.

On March 1-2, 2020, Heritage Auctions will offer an original background painting, complete with hand painted cel overlays, from the movie Fire and Ice (Ralph Bakshi / Frank Frazetta).

Someone sent me an Ebay listing for this original oil landscape, closing on September 18, but I can't seem to find the listing anymore. I'm not quite sure how Ebay works so it might have sold.

An exhibition of natural science art opens in Binghamton, New York tomorrow.

"Focus on Nature XV" will be on display at the Roberson Museum and Science Center. The show features 87 illustrations by 69 artists, including two oil paintings by me: Triceratops Hatchlings and Repenomamus.

Today on Ebay, there's a background painting for the 1983 Bakshi/Frazetta animated film Fire and Ice. The original painting is rendered with brush and airbrush in cel vinyl paint on board, 12.5" x 16"  by James Gurney.

The Catskills plein-air painting “Old Mill Falls” is on exhibit now at the American Masters show in New York City through October 26.

I’ll be there for the gala tonight, October 12.

This Dinotopia painting will be on view at the American Masters exhibit starting tomorrow October 8, 2018 at the Salmagundi Club in New York City.

I"m honored to see my painting “Winter Sunset” as the topic of the ultimate painter’s TV talk show, “The Line."

The show is run by King Art Nerds Louis Carr, Michael Klein, and Joshua LaRock of East Oaks Studio, and it features a different painting for sale each time.

This Sunday in Los Angeles, two artists I admire will lead tours of the Gold Medal Show at the Natural History Museum.

• 2:30 p.m. - William Wray: Urban Subjects and Redefining the Landscape.

My oil painting "Kosmoceratops" will be one of the paintings in the Gold Medal Exhibition of the California Art Club, which starts this weekend.

The painting was published in Scientific American magazine and received a Jury Award at the Focus on Nature XIII exhibition in Albany, NY.

"Light on the Water," an important oil painting from Dinotopia, will be part of the show and sale at the Gold Medal Exhibition of the California Art Club starting this weekend.

The opening event of the Portrait Society Conference is the Faceoff, where 15 artist paint from 5 models over a 3 hour period.

I had the pleasure of painting Joseph Daily, a portrait artist himself. I worked in oil, 12 x 16 inches.

Two original paintings are part of an Artsy benefit auction hosted today by the New York Botanical Garden. The auction closes May 7, 2018.

There will be an auction of two original flower paintings this month through the New York Botanical Gardens and Artsy, and an oil landscape (above) for sale through East Oaks Studio later this month. 

Later in the year I'll be selling a dinosaur painting and an original illustration from Dinotopia.

An original watercolor painting of mine celebrating art made by hand will be offered for sale at the "Interlace" exhibition at Bynd Artisan in Singapore from March 8-18, 2018.

Six major Dinotopia originals are part of the blockbuster exhibition "Into the Unknown: A Journey Into Science Fiction." The exhibit will complete its run at the Onassis Cultural Centre in Athens on January 14, 2018.

“Into the Unknown: A Journey Through Science Fiction” is now on view at the Onassis Cultural Center in Athens.

Dinosaur Parade, Waterfall City and four other Dinotopia paintings are part of a multi-year exhibition called "Into the Unknown: A Journey through Science Fiction." 

The exhibit is currently at the Barbican Centre in London, and it will continue to Athens, Denmark, and beyond.

This original painting, Rose Garden, will be offered for sale on Friday, October 14 at the American Masters exhibition in New York. I painted it while I was Artist in Residence at the New York Botanical Garden last summer.

The opening of "Impressionism: American Gardens on Canvas" was a big success yesterday at the New York Botanical Gardens, where I am the Artist in Residence for the summer.

A new exhibition called "The Art of James Gurney" was held at the museum of the University of the Arts in Philadelphia. The exhibition included more than 25 oil paintings from the Dinotopia books, as well as natural science illustrations, preliminary sketches, and maquettes.

Yesterday we visited the Dinotopia show in Stamford, Connecticut in preparation for the events that are coming up in a couple of weeks.

Over 50 original paintings are presented in several big rooms of the museum.

I'm pleased to announce that I'll be part of the American Masters show from October 14 - 24 at the Salmagundi Club in New York.

I'll be honored to be sharing the walls with artists like John Stobart, Burt Silverman, Christopher Blossom, Dean Mitchell, and Scott Christensen.

A while ago I received an invitation to try out one of Google's beta tools for artists, called "Google Open Gallery." It's a very interesting interface because it lets you share artwork in a rich scalable format, combined with video and audio.

One of my paintings from Dinotopia: Journey to Chandara called "Turnip Cart" is currently available for sale at the Daniel Maghen Gallery in Paris.

Dinotopia has arrived at the Arkell Museum of Art in Canajoharie, New York. The exhibition of original artwork "Dinotopia: The Fantastical Art of James Gurney" opens today at 1:00.

At 2:30, I'll be in attendance to give a family lecture on the making of Dinotopia, followed by a booksigning.

An original painting of mine called "Homecoming" will be coming up for sale at Heritage Auctions on October 26. I painted it in 1984 for a science fiction paperback novel by John Dalmas about neo-barbarians encountering an advanced civilization.
